Former Odisha cricket captain Prashant Mohapatra dies due to Covid-19
Prashant Mohapatra, Former Odisha Ranji Player, BCCI Match Referee & Level-2 coach Dies, Condolences offered.
Former Odisha cricket team captain Prashant Mohapatra died on Wednesday due to Covid-19 at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar. Dr. SN Mohanty, Medical Superintendent of AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, said that even all the efforts of doctors could not save him. The 47-year-old Mohapatra took the last breath at AIIMS Bhubaneswar at 7.51 am.

Prashant's father and Rajya Sabha MP Raghunath Mohapatra also died on May 9 due to Covid-19. While Prashant's brother Jasbant is also infected with Covid-19 and his treatment is also being done in this hospital.

Prashant Mohapatra was born on 1 September 1973. Prashant was a right-handed batsman and made his Ranji Trophy debut against Bihar in 1990.

He also played in the Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy for the Eastern Zone. Prashant played 45 first class matches, scoring 2196 runs at an average of 30.08 and with the help of five centuries and 11 half-centuries. After Prashant retired, the Indian Cricket Board appointed him as the match referee. He was also a Level-2 coach.
