The Asia Cup 2021 has been postponed until 2023 due to a "packed" schedule. The 2021 edition of the Asia Cup will now be held in 2023 due to a lack of windows in a busy cricket calendar.

This year's continental tournament was moved from Pakistan to Sri Lanka, but was canceled due to growing cases of Covid-19 in the island nation. Due to the packed schedule of all four top cricket teams of Asia, it must have been very difficult to find the window for the Asia Cup this year.

According to The Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the board considered the matter thoroughly and the Asia Cup was postponed for 2023 as there was no other way out.

"It would therefore only be feasible for this edition of the tournament to be held in 2023 as there is already an Asia Cup in 2022. Dates for the same will be confirmed in due course," the ACC said in the statement.

This year's tournament, before the T20 World Cup to be held in India in October-November, would have been the T-20 tournament.

The Asia Cup was last held in 2018, after which it was planned to be held in 2020. The Asia Cup to be held in 2020 was postponed due to Covid-19. The last two editions of the Asia Cup have been won by India.

According to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) statement, "The Executive Board of ACC made the difficult decision to postpone the Asia Cup 2020 until 2021. Facing the risks and restrictions posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then ACC, along with its participants and stakeholders, Continually working so that the tournament can be ensured this year. "

"However, on account of a packed FTP, it has been awaited that there is no practical window in the year when all the teams would be available to participate," the ACC said in its statement.

Generally the Asia Cup is held once every two years in which the top teams of Asia take part.
