The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021, which has been running smoothly for the last almost a month, was postponed indefinitely on Tuesday due to several cases of Covid-19 being detected in a bio-safe environment (bio bubble). After the postponement of the tournament, the board has made it clear that the safety of players and staff is paramount for it. The board said that the BCCI will do its best to ensure the safe return of the players. Players from England, Australia, New Zealand and many other countries have participated in the IPL 2021.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India said, 'It is a difficult time, especially in India and we have tried to bring some positivity and happiness, but now it is necessary that the tournament is suspended and everyone goes back to their family and loved ones in this difficult period. It said that the BCCI does not want to compromise with the safety of players, support staff and other partners involved in the conduct of the IPL 2021. This choice has been taken keeping in view the wellbeing of all stakeholders.

League chairman Brijesh Patel said that we will try to organize this competition in the next available time, but this month is not likely. The announcement was made after Sunrisers Hyderabad wicketkeeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha and Delhi Capitals spinner Amit Mishra were found positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday.

BCCI vice president Rajiv Shukla said, "We will see if we can get any suitable time for the IPL event later in the year." It may be September but for now it will only be speculation. The situation as of now is that we are not organizing the tournament. Earlier on Monday, Chennai Super Kings bowling coach L Balaji and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowlers Sandeep Warrier and Varun Chakraborty also had positive results. Earlier, two IPL matches were postponed due to escalating infections of Covid-19.
